I am currently a PhD student in Cultural Anthropology and my research is based within anthropology of media. I am looking at the processes involved in the creation of Hindi soap operas, the ideologies of production and mise-en-scène, and the workplace culture of the Hindi television industry. I am interested in the subcultures on the production side – the artists, designers, creatives etc. Some of the questions that I explore are related to the work histories, interpersonal relationships, occupational networks, and aspirations of the people within the industry and how they work in tandem with ideas of religiosity, gender, and class in India. Areas that specifically interest me are creative direction, art, costuming and design within the Hindi television industry.
